Plaid Birthday Card

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween, Everyone!

I decided to do something different today and stay away from any holiday themes. I’m sure many of you have seen too many of those lately and I know I’ll be making lots of holiday cards soon. Having said that – I got this plaid inspiration from a few holiday cards I’ve seen lately! Kristina Werner used watercolor to create her plaid background and My Favorite Things featured a plaid card using gold foil.  I’m going to keep it simple and use stamping only :).

I used 4 colors and I really don’t think you should use anymore than that – it makes it far too complicated.  The plaid design can be done anyway – as long as you keep the square pattern consistent with each type of line design (stamp thickness) that you use. As always, I did not do a test run and just started stamping. So I know that you can do this too!

Plaid Birthday

I stamped one color/stamp at a time and then decided to add a border of dots using a die from Mama Elephant. To make the sentiment pop, I used the MISTI to line it up and to stamp twice to ensure good coverage of ink and embossed it.

Pretty Pink Posh has new embellishments called Clear Droplets – they have some height to them and are really pretty! They do roll around a bit though there is one flat side to adhere to your project. To help me put them on the card without them rolling all over and getting adhesive all over them, I used the Pick Me Up Tool. See below for the full list of supplies.

I made this card for my friend, Tiffany, who I’ve known for more about 13 years. She just go married recently so I decided to use a basic alphabet stamp set to create a box of monogrammed cards for her.  The stamp set I used is by Stampin’ Up! and is called Sophisticated Serifs. It’s no longer available but you can really do this with whatever alphabet sets you may have. Here’s a photo of one of the cards I made for her. I used my MISTI and got them done pretty quick!

Both cards were very quick card and and easy to make. I hope you liked the plaid background! Here’s my video for this week:

  1. Oh, Caly, what a really classy card with the plaid! I love it, and I love the other one with the monogram and the gold embossing! Beautifully done! Hugs!
