I’m sharing one of Hello Bluebird’s new release items today. I didn’t get the dies in time to share during release week, but I had to play with these rainbow dies as soon as I got them!
I had envisioned a soft rainbow and thought I would cut the rainbow using vellum and color using Copics, but I felt that didn’t give me the look I wanted, so I started over and did watercolor instead.
Here’s my vellum rainbow:
It’s pretty – but I didn’t really like how bright it turned out and felt like it was a little weird to see the watercolor splatters from the background panel through the vellum.
So I recut everything and tried watercolor instead:
Much softer and what I was after. I did a simple watercolor wash for the backgrounds. For the clouds, I just outlined it with my N0 Copic marker and softened it a bit with my 0 marker. One I adhered my rainbow pieces on the two bottom clouds, I ran this through my creative station sticker maker and propped the other two clouds on top once it was on the card panel.
The sentiment is embossed using Versafine Onyx Black ink with clear embossing powder using the Rainbow Script stamp set (also new for this May release).
What do you think? Which rainbow do you like better? They’re both pretty, but I’m a huge critic of myself and am partial to the soft colors.
