Hello Bluebird Release Preview – Yeti or Not and Snow Play

Hi, Friends!

I’m ecstatic to share today’s cards with you!  The Hello Bluebird team is so excited about the next release available on October 12th.  We’re sharing previews with you and I really hope you enjoy my cards.  I’m trying new sizes and doing interactive cards this month for the Hello Bluebird release.

HB Yeti or Not 1

My first card uses the Yeti or Not stamp and die set.  It’s not interactive, but it’s a longer card and outside the norm for me.  When folded, it’s 8.5″ x 4″ – thanks to my fellow Design Team member and friend, Leanne for encouraging me to do this.  Hello Bluebird now has a set for hills and slopes called Hill and Dale – I used it to cut the snow drift and added adhesive (with my finger) to add some fine iridescent glitter and a thicker line of it at the top for the chunky glitter.  For the background, I ink-blended Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide Inks and splattered with water and white ink for snow.

HB Yeti or Not 2

I colored the images using Copic markers and die-cut them using the Yeti or Not companion dies.

Copic Colors used:  E41, E42, E43, E44 (deer and tree trunks); R24, R29 (reds); G03 (green light bulbs); G82, G46 (trees); Y02 (yellow bulbs), 0, C1, C2, C3 (yeti), R20 (blush), G000, G00, BG24 (teal scarf), B24 (blue light bulbs), B41, B14 (blue scarf), B0000, B00 (mug)

HB Yeti or Not 3

I adhered the accessories to the yetis, using a craft knife to cut around the hands to make it look like they were holding the mug and the one arm is over the scarf.  I then adhered all the images to the card using 3M foam tape for dimension – and because adhesive doesn’t stick to glitter too well, I thought it best to apply the foam adhesive above the snow line.  I finished off this card by embossing the sentiment in white in the upper left hand corner.

HB Snow Play 2

My second card is a double slider card using the new Snow Play set.  I have done this before in a previous post where I used this mechanism to reveal my baby’s gender.  And if you didn’t know….I also used to create YouTube tutorials – before said child was born.  You can read that post HERE.  I’m attaching the video here for you if you’re interested, if not – I totally understand.  It’s almost 3 years old, so it’s not the best.

I know there are nifty dies you can use now for interactive cards, but I refrained from using them because I wanted to stay true to who I’m currently designing for and was confident I could create one myself.

HB Snow Play 1

I cut two card panels for the card base – they will sandwich and hold a mechanism for the two side panels, which are also cut to the same size.  The video above will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.  Before constructing the double slider, I masked and ink-blended the ground and sky using Distress Oxide inks in Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, and Hickory Smoke.  I them embossed snowflakes and the sentiment on each panel in white.  To create an opening to pull the side panels out, I used a 3/4″ circle punch to cut out semi-circles.  The mechanism itself is slightly taller than the side panels (tall enough to hold thin strips of foam tape at the top and bottom to keep a belly band in place.  Again, watching the video will be really helpful!  Sorry I can’t describe it well enough to do it justice.

HB Snow Play 3

I colored all the images using Copic markers and die cut the images before arranging them on each of the panels.

Copic Colors used:  0, C00, C1, C4, C6 (penguins + mice); E50, E41, E42, E43, E44 (deer); Y06, Y18 (yellow bulb, beak); R27, R29 (cardinals, xmas hats, scarf); R00, R20 (blush); RV42, RV14 (pink scarf); B24 (blue bulb); B52, BG72 (blue scarf); G00, BG24 (teal scarf and present); G03, G19.

HB Snow Play 4

Coloring and die cutting can be time consuming, but putting these cards together are so fun for me.  I really enjoyed laying out the pieces and creating the scenes on each panel to make it all cohesive.  I really hope you enjoyed it also and that you’ll give it a try!

  1. Caly, talk about a duo of festive delights! Your ‘long and lean’ Yeti card is beyond charming; your *jolly* critters, frolicking in the forest, absolutely magical! I’ve not yet embarked on slider cards (currently obsessing over reveal wheels), but your ‘how to’ video is going straight into my ‘must keep and try’ list for down the road.
Snowing here – again (winter has arrived early in Alberta…sighhhh) – so your cards have gone a long way in making me feel merry!

    1. Aww. Thank you, Carol! I hope you’ll try both! They are so fun! I understand your obsession with reveal wheels! I’ve made two but haven’t had time to play with other supplies in a while. Have lots of crafty fun!
