Hi Friends!

I decided last minute to join in the fun with the MFT 2018 Creative Olympics.  There are four events/challenges and phew…let me tell you…I’ve spent the last 2 hours organizing/editing photos and I think my heart is still racing from the last challenge.  I’m not kidding.  I need a beta-blocker for my heart.  I’m going to dive right in and share each of these events with you!  Winners are selected randomly so wish me luck!

Event #1:  Stamping Slalom – creating 1 card using at least 3 stamp sets.

For my first card, I used a new stamp set I’ve been wanting to play with – Meant to Bee.  I love bees (images of bees to be more clear) and wanted to create a scene using them along with the elephant from Adorable Elephants and a hippo from Happy Hippos.

I inked up the background for this card using Broken China distress ink and used the Grassy Hills die to cut some layering grass.  I added the images after fussy cutting them (I only had the dies for the Meant to Bee set) and finished off the card with some Wonky stitches and a few white highlights with my Sakura White Gelly Roll pen.

Event #2:  Winter Freestyle

My second card features MFT’s Snowflake Splendor stamps and Layered Snowflakes dies.

I stamped the first layer, die cut the second layer using silver sparkle paper, used vellum for my 3rd layer of flakes and adorned the center with silver sequins.  The sentiment is from the Happy Pawlidays set.  There was lots of white space on this card, so I used some Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to finish off this card.

Event 3:  Crafty Biathlon

MFT gave us the option of combining two techniques on one card for this challenge.  I decided to use emboss-resist with a shaker element.

I stamped snowflakes on a piece of white cardstock and used Distress Oxides (Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet, Worn Lipstick) to color the entire panel, revealing those pretty white snowflakes.  I added some watermarks and die cut 3  snowflakes to create the shaker portion.  I used my MISTI to help me stamp the 3 coordinating stamps and embossed them in silver sparkle embossing powder through the die cuts.  The sequins I used are gifted ones I found in my stash – they were snowflakes and served it’s purpose for this card.  Finally, I added a scalloped border frame.

Event #4:  Speed Cardmaking

Ok y’all…I waited for this forth event to finish this post….couldn’t find it on the MFT Blog but luckily found it on their FB webpage.  Sigh – the start of my anxiety.  The challenge was to create a card from start to finish in 20 mins.  20 mins!!!  That’s really hard to do sometimes!  I just got the Mesmerizing Mandala die this past week and it was sitting there looking at me.  So I decided I would use it for this quick card.

I used Distress Oxide Inks again (same as above but the pink I used for this card is Festive Berries) and inked up a panel, then I die cut it out and sprayed sparkle shimmer liquid over it before adhering it to the card layer.  I die cut the word because in both black and silver glitter paper and off set them when I glued them together.  The sentiment is from the same Because stamp/die set that I embossed in white over black cardstock.  How long did this take me, you ask?  I think I could’ve finished it in 15…but the obsessive need to clean as I created caused me to slow down.

I’m calling it a success here….are you with me?!  I think my heart is still racing…because after I finished that card, I started editing photos and had to find all the blog posts from MFT to link these cards.  I’m finally done!  Hallelujah…(and the Star Spangled Banner plays in my head).
