Hello There!
When I see new stamps and dies, I typically don’t have an idea of what I want to do, but when I saw these stitching butterflies by Simon Says Stamp, I knew that I wanted to add actual stitching to them. These dies have been sitting on my desk for a few days and I thought I would spend some time stitching gold thread in them.
Before stitching, of course, I had to color the paper panel with some distress oxide. I used Picked Raspberries and squeezed lemonade to achieve a circular blend of color, added my butterflies towards the lower half of the blended circle, and cut these butterflies out.
I also used regular distress ink in Cracked Pistaschio to add a light watercolor wash on the background of this card for a soft and airy feel. Once dry – I ran the watercolor panel through my sewing machine and did some freehand wonky stitches.
I freehanded the stitching on the butterflies using a simple straight stitch along the stitching lines that were already on the butterfly – using the stitch lines more as guidelines and as entry holes for my needle.
To finish the card, I adhered the butterflies using glue only at the center of the butterfly added its body in black and topped it with some glossy accents (can’t see that too well in the photo). A simple black strip of the sentiment added some contrast and finishes off the card.
I hope you enjoyed this card!
Have a wonderful weekend!
XOXO,

Oh my heart, Caly! I LOVE these butterflies and your amazing stitching and sewing! I MUST have them! Hehe! Well, you have made a far more beautiful card with these butterflies than what is on the SSS website — truly! I love the beautiful colors, and I am swooning over the stitching. Oh, how I love these, and of course they are out of stock. But I’ll get notified when they are back in stock. Totally one of the prettiest cards I’ve seen, and I love how you’ve added the black sentiment banner to reinforce their butterfly bodies. The sequins finish it off to a tee! You are amazing, sweet Caly! Love you and sending hugs! xoxo

Hi Caly, I love your cards. I would like to know how you hid or tied off the threads in your butterflies? What does the back of the wings look like? Keep smiling! Cynthia Abbott

Hi Cindy! I have loose ends the meet. Meaning, I start and end at the same place. I stitch on line, and come back to it and have two loose ends that I tape down. So aside from the loose ends, the front looks just like the back.
