Hi Friends!
I’m SOOOO excited to share today’s cards with you! The new Ellen Hutson release is available today! As a part of their affiliate program, I was able to get this stamp set in advance to play with it and share with you as they announce this release. The release is full of amazing products, but this was my favorite (because I have a weakness for flowers) and wanted to try watercoloring with Tombow Dual Brush Pens! I have seen Kathy Racoosin color with Tombows and she makes it look so effortless! My friend Emily Midgett of Sixth Street Sundries has also made beautiful cards watercoloring with Tombows so I felt compelled to try!
I knew I wanted to do some no-line watercoloring so I used distress ink to stamp these images. The first color I chose (Tea Dye) is darker than I had wanted. So I stamped another using Antique Lenin on the right. Aside from the color of the stamped image, you’ll notice also that the vibrancy and color saturation is very different.
this first image I colored is layered with 3 layers of color. I used a light, medium, and dark pink and layered each flower as it dried with a darker color each time. I used a damp Silver Velvet Brush in a size 6 to watercolor these images. Tombows really blend so nicely! I think Emily was right when she said that she might prefer Tombows over Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. They are just a different look – still great results though!
As I’m typing this, I had to stop look up the anatomy of the flower to describe what the flower parts are. Those white stems in the center of the flower…did you know they are called filament? And the yellow pollen-holding ends…those are anthers. Anyway – I drew the filament in using my white Uniball Signo pen and then I colored the anthers with a yellow Tombow marker. To finish this card, I went around the outline of the image with a gray marker and blended that out with a damp brush. The word beautiful is embossed in white on black cardstock. I also took my Gold Encore ink pad and went around the entire card panel to give it an extra bit of interest.
For my second card, I only did one layer of watcolor with the medium pink color I used in the previous card. The outline of the image remains because the pink is less intense and less water touched it. It’s still a beautiful look – just different because I didn’t spend as much coloring it like I did with the first one.
I used the coordinating die to cut out this image and popped it over a simple watercolor washed panel in Broken China distress ink and did the same thing with the sentiment. You can’t tell from the photo, but I also spritzed the entire watercolor panel with shimmer.
Which card do you like better??? These have got to be one of my favorite cards of all time! I love them so much and think that Julie Ebersole did an amazing job designing these stamps. Hurry to the Ellen Hutson store and shop these amazing products! You can use any of the links I provide below, or in my sidebar – or there’s a shop tab above that you can click on. Caly, these are GORGEOUS! I am so excited to see you share the new Ellen Hutson release, and what beautiful new products. I am so happy to see more “Mondo” flowers. You know I LOVE flowers, and these are gorgeous. Your watercoloring is exquisite, and I love both ways. But IF I had to choose (which is hard), I like the first one with the beautiful shading around it. It’s exquisite! I love all your work, and you are really rocking, my friend! Hugs and love! xoxo

Great job on the coloring. I think I like the one with the blue background. It resembles sky and doesn’t seem to be “floating”.
