I made 2 cards for today using Lil’ Inker Designs’ Faceted Cover Up die. I had only intended on making one but it didn’t turn out as I’d hoped and it was quite disappointing after spending so much time on it, but i’m sharing it anyway.
Let’s talk about the first card, shall we? I see a lot of cover up dies being used with rainbow ink-blended backgrounds and in-layed after cutting. I wanted to try something different and wanted to use black cardstock – for a stained glass look. So I decided to hand-paint each piece using my Zig Pearlescent paint palette.
It’s a risk with using pearlescent paints – since the view is different from all different angles and is difficult to photograph. The painting of each individual piece was also a lot of work!
As if painting each piece wasn’t laborious enough, I decided I wanted the black to be shiny. So I painfully squeezed Glossy Accents lacquer over the black cardstock. I was a bit shaky and you can tell it’s not perfect. I’m somewhat embarrassed but I figured I’d share my fail with you anyway.
For the second card, I went with a more “traditional” look. I ink blended Distress Oxide Inks over a card panel (Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet) in circular/dotted patterns. I cut this panel with the Faceted Cover Up die but I realize now…there was no reason for that. So many fails today!
I die cut another panel in white and placed this layer over the top.
For the sentiments on both cards, I used large word dies and accented it with black cardstock with an embossed sentiment.
There you have it – my two cards using the Faceted Cover Up die. This is such a wonderful die and I wish I hadn’t overcomplicated my cards! I think they turned out alright and I hope you liked them!

Thank you Caly for sharing both cards. I appreciate your sharing a failure as I learn also. I seem to have more failures than successes & it is nice to know even “experts” have projects that don’t come out the way expected. I do enjoy your talent.
