I’m thrilled today to be joining Altenew in their new product release blog hop featuring their new watercolor brush marker set – Winter Wonderland. It’s a beautiful set with very versatile colors and I’ll show you how I created today’s card with only four of the markers. The barrel is filled with water-based color, and coordinates with our line of inks. The flexible, yet sturdy bristles on the brush tip allow you to form both broad and fine strokes. Color can be applied straight from the marker, or diluted with water for a softer look.
I started by stamping the image from the beautiful Handpicked Bouquet set on watercolor paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. Using the watercolor brush markers, I applied color to the crevices of each petal (one petal at a time) and used a clean, damp watercolor brush to saturate the area I’m working on and pulled the pigment out to create shading. To add depth to the Ruby Red flowers, I also went back and applied some Persian Blue to the crevices to add further depth to the flowers. I used Lagoon and Emerald for the leaves.
When I was done coloring, I started fussy-cutting. I fussy-cut the image until I was almost done only to realize I had a coordinating die!!! I tell you this because sometimes, I need you to laugh with me to feel better about being a dork. It was late! I used the die anyway because I liked that I cut out the space between the stems and I’m so glad I didn’t mess it up! For my background, I ink-blended Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide inks directly onto a card base because I knew I wanted to add a layer of stripes using the Watercolor Strips Cover Die.
I embossed a sentiment on white paper using gold embossing powder and to add some interest, I also added little black enamel dots using Ebony Black Nuvo Crystal Drops. It was so fun creating this for Altenew and I really enjoyed it. Next stop is Kathleen’s blog!
