I’m so excited to be a Heffy Friend today! I’ve got a really fun interactive card. Thank you, Jennifer McGuire for recently sharing a pop-up shadowbox tutorial with us! If you’d like to see a video tutorial, you can check out Jennifer’s video HERE.

I used the really cute Big Bug Hugs stamp and die set for today’s project. These little bugs were just too cute and I know I needed lots of elements to fill my shadow box.

I stamped and colored my images using Copic markers and die-cut the images and set them aside to work on the shadow box. To create the shadowbox, you’ll need two panels cut to 6 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. Place these panels, one at a time, into a score board in landscape orientation and score at 1/2″, 1″, 5 3/4″, and 6″. After scoring both panels, you’ll burnish the folds first away from you, then towards you to create a “z”. When the two are put together, the card front and back form a box with the ends sticking out in the center.

C2, C4, C6 (lady bug, snail)
R05, R29, R39 (lady bug)
BV0000, BV00, BV11 (dragonfly)
B0000, B00 (wings)
Y011, Y08 (bee)
R20 (blush)
G00, BG11, BG34, BG49 (mushrooms, worm)
R00, RV11 (worm)
E00, E30, E53, E37 (snail, mushroom)
YG11, YG61, YG11, G03 (grass and clovers)
I took one of the panels to create the front window. I used an oval die and cut out the window, then used a smaller oval and die cut a second window from light blue cardstock to create a frame. The sentiment is also stamped and embossed on black cardstock and adhered between the card frame and card front.

To create the background, I sponged some ink using a cloud stencil. and then Next, I die-cut grass accents for the frame and background inside the box. I adhered a small piece of grass to the card front and the other to the inside panel.

I then gathered all my images and adhered them in various places on and inside the shadowbox to create the fun spring scene. The bee is adhered to a strip of acetate and its end, adhered/sandwiched between the two panels on the left side. Once I knew where I wanted the bee, I added double sided tape to the 1/2″ strips on each side and adhered them together.

I’ve been wanting to make a card like this since Jennifer published her video, so I’m happy to see that someone else was able to recreate her method too! And what a sweet card–perfect for the spring that has yet to arrive. Thanks for sharing!
