Lawn Fawn – Toadally Awesome Magic Picture Changer

Hi, Friends!

It’s been a while since I crafted “just because” and I decided to take part in the Lawn Fawnatics Challenge with the Pet Love theme.  Honestly…I haven’t done a whole lot of challenges.  I used to do them for LiveLoveCards.com but since I’m designing for a few companies, I don’t have enough time to just play.  I recently moved and due to circumstances I couldn’t have foreseen (no internet at my new address), I had to resign from a job I’ve been at just shy of 10 years.  It was bittersweet, but after 2 weeks of being off and being able to focus on the move and kids more, I came to realize also that my family and my home needs my attention above all else.  So while it was sad to leave my job, it’s also a blessing to have a little more time for other important things.  Anyway…sorry for the tangent.

When I was growing up, my mom was completely against pets and I never really knew what it was like to have one.  With that comes fear of the unknown.  We tried to have dogs and the only long term pets we ever had were fish – something we never physically got our hands on.  I know – it sounds pretty sad, doesn’t it?!  Anyway – ironically, while we were getting sod put down on our yard yesterday, a dog wandered up to our house and played with my kids for hours.  It wears a collar but no tags.  He slept on our lawn and was on our porch this morning when the kids excitedly woke us up to tell us.  So I’ve been to the store to buy dog food and I’ve called animal control just in case its owners decide to report a lost dog.  I can’t imagine him not being searched for right now.  He’s such an amazing dog with a calm demeanor and my kids would be so happy to keep him (and I don’t mind as long as he goes unclaimed).  If there’s anything else I should be doing, please let me know!  Gah…another tangent!  Sorry!

He’s soooo sweet…and the kids LOVE him!

My card today has nothing to do with dogs – but toads and frogs are pets too, right?!  I know they are, so let’s not allow me to second guess myself.  I love the Magic Picture Changer – in fact, the last time I made a Lawn Fawn card, I was a guest designer in March and used the Magic Picture Changer too – so it’s been way too long!  This Toadally Awesome set is a fun one!  I had a few images colored from one of the coloring challenges and decided to make a fun card out of them!

I love interactive cards sooo much so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use the dies when I get the chance.  How fun are these before and after images?  To use the Magic Picture Changer, you have to stamp and mask, if necessary, and color two one-layer images (for the before and the after images).  The before image needs to have ample space to use the die – so just be sure you plan for this.  Nothing like stamping, masking, and coloring to realize you have to start over!

I started my toad out on a lily pad and decided to have him hop off for the “after” image.  After coloring these images with Copic Markers, I masked and ink-blended around the images with Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Ink.  Then I used the interactive die to cut out my images and create the mechanism.  I used the Spiffy Speckles patterned paper to decorate the mechanism and ink-blended with more ink at the bottom to give it the look of blue water.

For the background, I also ink-blended with Salty Ocean and added droplets of water and ink for texture.  Then for some extra interest, I used the white Spiffy Speckles paper with green speckles and die-cut the Bayou Backdrop after ink-blending it at the top only with some Bundled Sage Distress Oxide ink to give the falling vines some extra color.  I adhered this to the blue background, then adhered the Magic Picture Changer portion to the background using foam adhesive.

My favorite part of cardmaking is always the scene-building so I had a lot of fun adding the images to create the finishing scene.  When I colored these images initially, I did not have the dies, so I cut all the images up to the line – but I’ll link the dies below for you.  I’ve since gotten all the dies for my Lawn Fawn stamp sets because I’ve come to realize that I’m never going to de-stash my Lawn Fawn sets so I may as well complete my collection!  We’re all a little neurotic about crafting supplies, right?

Anyway – I hope you enjoyed my card.  I had so much fun creating it and I hope to join more Lawn Fawnatics Challenges in the future!  Have a great weekend, everyone!
