We just finished celebrating Hero Arts’ 45th Anniversary with a 3 day blog hop, but I’ve got another card I’d like to share today. I made this one as a sample for the summer catalog and wanted to share the details with you. As a part of the Anniversary theme, Hero Arts has a special line of stamps that were pulled from “the vault” and the Bugs set is one of them!
For this card, I used just the butterfly images. First, I created a watercolor background using Daniel Smith paints in Pyrrol Orange and Opera Pink – very bright and vibrant colors! I added some water to my watercolor cardstock, added some color, heat set to dry and repeated. Drying between each color layer gives you the beautiful ribbon effect – otherwise it all just blends together and becomes mushy.
The butterflies are embossed in gold, then ink-blended with Hero Arts’ Tide Pool ink. I bent the butterflies up just a little bit and adhered just the bodies to the watercolored background to give the butterflies some dimension.
The sentiment is embossed in white over black cardstock and adhered to the card using foam adhesive. To finish off the card, I thought I would mat it over Paradise cardstock to pull in the more teal to balance out the color of the butterflies.
