Concord & 9th – Hexagon Paper Piecing Rainbow In-lay

Hi, Friends!

A couple of weeks ago, I got to play with the new Concord & 9th Hexagon Designer Die. The idea is to create a canvas full of hexagon openings that you can in-lay with to create a design – much like stitching but with in-lay hexagons.

It’s a wonderful idea for those who don’t stitch. It’s a lot of die-cutting depending on your project idea and colors, but I can attest that they are worth the effort upfront!

The first card I created was a bit more detailed and I gave this card to Angie, one of the owners of Concord & 9th. I spelled out the words “ho ho ho” and then created an ornament in the center with a poinsetttia in the upper right hand corner of the ornament. Then I added white gel highlights to the flower and then glitter glue across the center of the ornament, and finally, added a clear glaze over the other ornament pieces. I thought doing this would help the view distinguish better what each part is.

My friend, Chari Moss, created a rainbow stripe that I had to replicate. I brought the panel hone after gluing down all the hexagons in rainbow order and then added a staggering row of glitter going down the rows.

The sentiment is from the Big Thanks stamp set. The letters are not stationary (or one piece), so I was able to squeeze them in to fit perfectly in the space to the right of my rainbow panel.

I then trimmed my panel to mat an A2-sized card base. It’s pretty straight forward though the in-lay of the pieces may take some patience. I think it’s completely worth it and hop you’ll give it a try! If you love the props in my photo – the flower is from Concord & 9th Pretty Poppy dies and the rainbow was crocheted by my friend Joy Ott (sorry, I can’t help you there!).

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you liked these projects!
