Simon Says Stamp – Forest Border

Hello Friends!

I’ve got another project today from the Simon Says Stamp Holly Jolly Release using a 3D embossing folder. The Forest Border 3D Embossing Folder is just beautiful so I was determined to create a snowy forest scene.

I’m quite a perfectionist, and I honestly have never thrown away so many panels while making one card before. This one is not perfect by all means – but ultimately, I had to give in and be happy with the colors I chose. With 3D embossing folders, ink coverage can be finicky and you have to allow yourself GRACE! To begin, I added some tape runner to the raised portions on the thicker trunks to help hold my cardstock in place for multiple inking.

Juicy ink pads are important and I found that a pigment or hybrid ink works best. For my card today, I used Hero Arts Reactive Inks in Pool Party, Blue Raspberry, and Blue Hawaii. I inked the lightest color first, then the medium, then the dark towards the top. To blend the colors, I used a dauber to remove harsh lines from the ink pad transfer.

I then used a finger dauber to add some color to the pine trees. I used Distress Oxide Inks (Vintage Photo and Pine Needles) for this. At this point, I trimmed my panel and splattered it with white paint for a snowfall look. To finish, I cut down a sentiment from the Reverse Christmas Sentiment Strips and adhered it with foam adhesive for dimension.

I hope you enjoyed this project! Thanks so much for spending some time with me today! Have a wonderful day!

  1. That is so beautiful, Caly! May I please rummage through your wastebasket and retrieve any of your discards which I’m sure were just as gorgeous! 😉

  2. Gosh Caly, this turned out to be a stunning card. I’d love to try your technique. Honestly, I’ve always been stumped when trying to add ink on an image from a folder. (other than direct ink to folder- as in Jennifer McGuire or Yana’s videos). If you ever are inclined, I bet a video showing how you were able to work your magic would be very popular. It’s truly a beauty! 😊💖👏
