Simon Says Stamp has released a few special products for the holidays. I’ll be sharing a few more over the next few days so be sure to check back for more inspiration. Today’s card uses the Winter Flower set. This 6″ x 8″ stamp set features a beautiful poinsettia bouquet.

I did a loose watercolor technique that I learned from Kristina Werner. I embossed the image twice using white embossing powder and then I wet the entire panel with water before dropping on color for a light wash that blooms to surrounding area using Daniel Smith Watercolors. This gives the background that soft color.

Daniel Smith Watercolors used: Pyrrol Crimson, Hooker’s Green, Green Gold, Rose of Ultramarine

Next, I used the same colors I used for the background and painted a heavier concentration on the image itself like I would normally do when I’m watercoloring. I applied pigment in the nooks and crannies and drew out the color with a clean, damp brush. This is a looser style that I’m not used to, but I do love the light wash in the background.

When I was done watercoloring, I stamped a sentiment and embossed it in white over black cardstock. I also matted my watercolor panel over a piece of black cardstock.
