Welcome! The Simon Says Stamp Handmade Holiday Release came with lots of beautiful winter 3D embossing folders. I’m using the Holly Branch Embossing Folder today to watercolor. It’s been a while since I’ve watercolored on a 3D-embossed image. I did it when Simon Says Stamp first started carrying 3D embossing folders. Do you remember it? In case you forgot, you can see the post HERE.

Watercoloring 3D-embossed images creates a no-line look and gives an extra element of dimension that is so special. After embossing the image over watercolor paper, I added paint and water just like I would if I had stamped this with no-line ink. I do think the embossing helps give you an idea of where you should add darker shades. If you think about the dimension in terms of hills and valleys, the valleys are where you should place more/darker pigment to create the shading.

I painted the holly leaves with Sap Green, the berries with Pyrrol Crimson, and the branches with Sepia Daniel Smith Watercolors.. When done, I splattered my panel with white, Sap Green paint, Finetec gold paint, and Hero Arts White Iridescent Shimmer spray to give it lots of interest.

I finished my card by adhering the Peace sentiment, die-cut from vellum and Matte Gold Cardstock and attaching a sub sentiment from the Reverse Love Peace Joy Sentiment Strips set.
