Hello, friends!
Just hours ago, the Simon Says Stamp Cozy Hugs Release went live! I’m back to share more inspiration!

The Glistening Snowflakes stamp set is a 6″ x 8″ stamp and die set and the images are so pretty, I ended up with two cards. As you can see, there are snowflake-shaped holiday images and I just really wanted to use the Christmas-tree shaped one as well as the more traditional hanging-style snowflakes!
Christmas Tree Card
Products used:
- SSS Glistening Snowflakes stamp and die set
- SSS Snowfall and Banks stencil
- SSS CZ Merry Word die
- SSS Reverse Christmas Wishes Sentiment Strips
- SSS Frosty Morning sequins
- Distress Oxide Inks: Tumbled Glass, Chipped Sapphire
- additional supplies listed at the end of the post

I embossed the images over white cardstock and ink-blended with Distress Oxide Inks. For the background, I used Soft Navy cardstock and added the Snowfall and Banks with white pigment ink.

- SSS Snowfall and Banks stencil
- SSS Simple Holiday Greetings stamp

No snowbanks on this card, but I used the same stencil to stagger the falling snow. It makes the snowfall so dreamy!

I hope you enjoyed this set of coordinating cards!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Caly, did you tape a video while you were making these cards? Would love to have watched how you made them.

Okay then I hope you won’t mind if I ask a question. For the Christmas tree card you say that you embossed on white cardstock and then ink blended with the distressed oxide inks. So am I to understand that you embossed with white embossing powder onto white card stock and then blended with the two shades of blue and the white embossing powder did not pick up any of the ink as it appears perfectly white?? How did you keep that from happening??

Hi Julie! When you emboss, the heat-activated powder resists ink. You could emboss on white, and inkblend with dark blue inks, but I embossed on dark blue cardstock and then added one blue ink. Makes it easier that way. I don’t know about you, but inkblending is a workout! After you’re done inkblending, you just wipe the embossed areas with a towel/rag and it removes excess ink from the embossed areas and makes it perfectly white again. I hope that makes sense!

Just to be clear so when you said that you embossed on white cardstock you were mistaken. You used dark blue cardstock for both the base and for the Christmas tree?
Thanks for clarifying.

Sorry for the confusion, Julie! For the backgrounds, I used dark blue cardstock. For the snowflakes and tree, I embossed on white cardstock – this just helps me get the lighter centers better.

Caly,
Well I just actually tried to make this card. I embossed the Christmas tree onto white cardstock and let it set for a bit. Then I came in with the distressed oxide tumbled glass and did a light blue center. Then I used the distress oxide chipped sapphire to try to make the dark blue color. I’m sorry but did you really use distress oxide inks?? The distress oxide chipped sapphire is like a whitewashed medium blue color. Not only is it not even close to the bright brilliant beautiful blue of the tree in this photograph but it has smeared some of the embossing. This was an epic fail. Is there any chance you may have used the regular distressed inks and not the oxide inks???

Hi Julie! Not possible that I used regular distressed inks. I always use oxides to blend with with I use distress colors. It should rub right off the embossed areas. Please feel free to use distress ink if that’s what works better for you. I’m sorry it didn’t work out well.
