Hi friends!
I have a special project to share and it’s not a card!
I have been working part-time as a pharmacist and wanted to find some badge reels (retractable badge holders), but didn’t like how bulky the ones I saw online were, so I decided to buy a few tools to make my own. Spoken like a true crafter, right? Why buy something for $20 when you can spend $70 and make your own??? 🤣
Anyway, I had so much fun making these and love that I have extra tools and supplies to make more in the future!

You can find out more about the Mama Elephant Name Tag/Lanyard project HERE.
Card size: A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″)
Products used:
- Doodlebug Design Happy Pills Stickers (SBcom | SSS)
- Doodlebug Design Made with Love Paper Pad (SBcom | SSS)
- 1 3/8” punch (AMZN | SBcom | SSS) *please note that I didn’t have a 1 1/2″ punch and used one that is smaller, but I do recommend it here.
- 1 1/2” Acrylic Discs
- Badge Reels
- LF Pick up Tool (LF | SBcom | SSS)
- Distress Collage Medium (AMZN | SBcom | SSS)
- Distress Brush (AMZN | SBcom | SSS)
- UV Resin
- UV Light
- Lighter
- E6000 Adhesive
- Mama Elephant Name Tag Stamps (ME | SSS)
- Mama Elephant Name Tag Dies (ME | SSS)
- Mama ElephantLanyard Pocket (ME | SSS)

To make these, I punched patterned paper for the back of the acrylic discs. I used a 1 3/8″ punch because I didn’t have a 1 1/2″ punch, but I didn’t mind a little border. I used Distress Collage Medium to adhere the patterned paper. Be sure to remove the protective film from the acrylic discs before doing this. Mod Podge woud work, too. I found that my bottle was dry and was glad I had something else to use. This requires some drying time, so I just set them aside while I worked on others.
Once the back was dry, I added the sticker to the top (after removing the protective film on the acrylic). Then to seal it all in, I flooded the top with UV resin and cured it under a UV light. Depending on what you want it used for, you could totally stop here and turn these into pins! Not everyone needs an ID badge holder like I did for this project. I think a pin would be so cute!
For my purposes, I used E6000 adhesive to add these discs to a retractable badge reel. SO FUN AND EASY!

I hope you enjoyed this project! Thanks so much for visiting!

So cute. I bet you were / are the envy of all the other folks in the pharmacy! I don’t have a UV light for curing but Spellbinders offers a set of stamps/dies that create pills. Love DB’s take on the pills as well. Always a pleasure to see what you create….
