Hello Friends!
I’m excited to be a art of this month’s My Monthly Hero (MMH) Blog Hop! If you’ve come here from Emily Midgett’s blog, you’re in the right place! The September MMH Kit is filled with Asian inspiration and really hits close to home for me. These images remind me of the lantern festival that we celebrate every fall (probably inspired by it, but I can’t confirm) – a lot like Thanksgiving in North America. It’s a time to celebrate the harvest, give thanks, gather, and give prayer for the next year’s blessings.
The first card I created uses the Patterned Lanterns Bold Prints background stamp. I stamped the image with Versamark Ink on some light brown paper to mimic old Chinese wallpaper – I had this vision in my head and was hoping I could create it.
I colored the images using Copic markers after stamping them with Momento Tuxedo Black ink. Then I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images and set them aside to work on the background. I used an oval die to cut out a window and ink sponged Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Inks on the card base behind it. I thought it was a little bright, so I added vellum to soften the color.
I adhered the window panel to the card base and added my colored images. I stamped the sentiment on the vellum using StazOn Black ink because it’s great for non-porous surfaces. A few sequins completed this first card.
On my second card, I used the large oval die and cut a window on black cardstock. For the base, I used some blue Arteza markers (Artic Blue and True Blue), and smooshed it on a panel of Bristol Vellum cardstock. I did this by apply color and water to a color block and smooshing it directly over the wet panel. I find I get more control doing it this way.
I stamped and colored two branches and lanterns from the Autumn Moon set using Copic markers and arranged them on the watercolored panel. Once I was happy with the arrangement, I propped up the images using 3M Foam Tape and also propped up the black frame. I stamped the sentiment directly on the watercolored panel and added sequins to finish the card.
When I was done, I decided to add shimmer to the lanterns and on a whim…I decided to cover the entire black frame with it. It ended up looking OK – so no regrets!
Copic Colors used on cards: E50, E53, E31, #33, Y28, R14, R24, R39, R22, RV13, RV25, Y15, G02, G05, YG61, YG63.
I hope you enjoyed these cards! The main kit is available for a limited time only – once it’s gone, it’s gone. Kits begin shipping from Hero Arts on Friday, September 7th. You can also subscribe to receive the kit monthly and never miss one!

Such pretty cards. I really love the dimension you achieved on the vase and lanterns. I think the lanterns could be used as Christmas ornaments too. TFS.

The first one looks like a busy background, but it really works beautifully. Great examples.
