A new Challege has begun for Lawn Fawnatics! The current them is Cards for Guys. Here’s your chance to make a masculine card for a man in your life or a fun and playful card for boys! This challenge runs for 2 weeks so we hop you are able to play along!

I’ll be honest – I can’t remember the last time I made a masculine card/card for boys! I have 3 boys who have tons of parties with their friends, but I’ve stopped making handmade cards for fear that they’ll end in the trash! I know…it’s terrible! Making my card for this challenge reminded me how fun it is to make cards for boys and how much they really enjoy seeing something original that isn’t a one-layer store-bought card.

Today’s card is an interactive pull-tab card. I started by creating my galaxy background. I started with white cardstock and ink-blended imperfect and random spots of bright colors using Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Inks. After my “spots” were in place, I covered the remaining white areas of my white panel with Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide Ink. Then to add more depth, I ink-blended around the outer edge with Black Soot. To further enhance the look of my galaxy, I splattered my panel with water and then splattered with lots of white ink.

While my panel is set aside to dry, I began to stamp and color my images using Copic markers.

Copics:
Grays: C0, C3, C6
Reds: R22, R14, R29
Blues: B0000, B00
Greens: YG0000, YG01, YG07
Purples: V01, V04, V06, V09

I also stamped the “beamed” portion of my card over vellum to emboss with white embossing powder. On the backside, I colored it with some blue to give it some color.

The moon portion of my card is die-cut from a round boarder die from the Palm Tree Border die set. I ink-blended it unevenly on purpose using Weathered Wood to mimic the colors of the moon/planet floor. Once all the different elements were completed, I played with the layout until I knew exactly where I needed the beam to be so that I could line up my dies to create my pull tab mechanism to show the little alien beaming up and down from the spacecraft.

After die-cutting my mechanism, I began adhering my images and finalizing my sentiment by stamping and embossing as well. I attached my images first, then did my sentiments last. This top panel is then adhered to a cardbase using foam adhesive to make sure the little alien beams up and down the spacecraft without any issues!
