Hey Friends!

I’ve been dying to share today’s card with you. I love to watercolor, but I often avoid starting because it’s a huge commitment for me. I want to be able to do with without interruptions and that’s really hard with 4 kids at home! I knew I had to honker down and commit with the beautiful Drawn Daisies though!

I stamped my image over Arches Cold Pressed Watercolor paper with no-line ink and slowly watercolored each petal, then the leaves, then the flower centers – which is always intimidating to get the right colors and textures. I’m using Daniel Smith watercolors today (Shadow Violet, Carbazole Violet, Hooker’s Green) – only 3 paints!

Everyone’s watercolor technique is different and I know people hear this a lot – I am by no means a watercolor expert! My person preference is applying paint directly to the dry paper with a damp brush. I clean my brush after this and with a clean, damp brush, I drag that pigment out with my wet brush. Each petal is work – going back and forth between removing excess fluid and adding more color if needed.

After coloring, I added black and white splatters to give my panel more texture. Then I trimmed down my painting to mat an A2-sized card base before adding some texture to the daisy centers using a white gel pen. To finish, I attached my sentiment and added a few sequins to add sparkle.
