Simon Says Stamp – Gnome Terrarium

Hi Friends!

I have a really fun project to share today! I have admired Chari Moss’s terrarium projects for years and I finally remembered to find a glass jar while I was at Hobby Lobby the other day to use!

I used the Lil’ Gnome, Mushroom House and the Spring Gnomies house to create my gnome terrarium. I began by die-cutting and stamping images using white cardstock and colored everything with Copic markers.

Reds: R32, R35, R37, R39
Pinks: RV11, RV13, RV14
Yellow: Y11
Greens: [G24, G28], [G03, G16]
Blues: B24, B26, B29
Browns: [door E34, E35, E37], [nose E000, E51, E04], [mushroom E40, E41, E43]
Grays: C2, C4, C6

to create the bottom/base for my scene, I needed a foam dome. They sell these at craft stores, but I was too frugal to spend $6 on a ball that I’d have to cut in half – so I found some in a box in the garage and measured using the top of the jar and cut one myself…I know… I’m silly like that. It turned out pretty well and it gets covered up by moss anyway!

Just to be safe, I painted the top of my foam dome with dark green acrylic paint. When it was dry, I hot-glued it to the bottom side of the lid of the jar. I laid Floral Moss on top of my dome, covering it without adding too much bulk. Then I took all my images and hot-glued them to toothpicks to stick them into the moss and foam ball.

To finish and before closing my glass jar over the prepared lid and scene, I added Tiny Lights – wrapped one layer in front and the rest in the back to add some interest to my terrarium. It’s battery powered, so you can turn it off and on whenever you like!

I wish it photographed better because it looks much better in person! I hope you enjoyed this project and inspires you to make one – creating any scene you’d like! Thanks so much for stopping by!
