My Favorite Things – Sprinkling You With Love Rainfall Card

Hi, Friends!

I was on the Simon Says Stamp Blog and YouTube Channel yesterday and want to share my project with you here today. I’m so excited to share my fun rainfall card with you today using the Sprinkling You With Love set from My Favorite Things.  rainfall cards are fun and easy to make and add such a fun interactive element for the recipient.

In my video today, I share how you can use dies to create your rainfall card, or you can use what you currently have.  Be sure to check out the video to see how it’s done!

I stamped and colored the images from the Sprinkling You With Love set using Copic markers and set them aside before working on my background.  The background is layered with two similar ink-blended panels.  You can certainly make it with just one ink-blended panel, but I didn’t want any white to show through when lifting the interactive top panel to adhere to a card panel or card base for dimension and to allow space for the beads to fall freely.

Copics:
Reds:  R22, R24
Pinks:  RV10, R81, R83
Teals:  BG10, BG11, BG13
Blues:  B0000, B000, B01, B04
Grays:  C2, C4, C6
Bunnies:  E40, E41, E42, E43
Bears:  E50, E30, E33, E39
Blush:  R20, R30

My ink-blended panels are ink-blended with Distress Oxide Inks in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio, and Peacock Feathers.  You can see some orange and green organically from the blending of the colors – I love it!  I sprayed both panels with water to give it lots of texture.  Using a frame, I used the MFT Falling From the Clouds die (you can also use the Reverse Confetti Head in the Clouds frame), I die cut an opening for the rainfall window. Disclaimer: The MFT die is retired and there are only a few left available at Simon Says Stamp, but remember, you can use what you have! I’m sure you can create a frame easily with a rectangle die and some cloud dies – or whatever borders you want to create for your card.

Next, I strung some Pretty Pink Posh Silver Shimmer Seed Beads on some clear thread to feed through cut slits at the top and bottom of the frame created from the step mentioned above. It’s difficult to explain, but seeing it in the video will help a lot – be sure to check that out.  Once it’s strung and your window is filled beads, you can adhere this frame over the other ink-blended panel.  I finished by adhering my colored images and embossed sentiment.  I hope you like it!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!

  1. Hi Caly, Such a fun card. I’ve seen other shaker cards made before but this is the first time I ever seen anyone string up beads is a shaker card. A really clever idea. I’m still very new to card making ( 1 month in) and I don’t quite have the confidence in making shaker cards as of yet but I certainly enjoy how festive and fun they look. 🙂

  2. This is the most adorable card Caly! I like the soft colors you used for the coloring they work well with the rainbow blended background. Also, thank you for showing us how to make the rainfall without having to use a special die. Your tutorial was easy to follow, I hope I get some time soon to try making one myself! Thank you for sharing you are so creative!

  3. Gosh, such a cutie-patootie card, Caly. I love how you strung the beads up. So chic, my friend. Ooo la-la! Those colors are wonderful, too. 🏵 Have you started your Christmas cards, Caly? I bet they’re beautiful. 💜 Have a beautiful week, my friend.

    1. thanks, Marisela! I am just sending what I’ve made and shared here. I don’t have time to make others outside of work…or don’t want to squeeze in the time, as that would suck all the joy out of it and add too much stress if you know what i mean. Hope you have fun with it!

      1. Hola, Caly. Yeah, I totally get that. I was just curious. As for me, I’m not sure that I’m going to make any. I just don’t feel up to it. I don’t feel bad physically, but I have just felt down in my heart. It makes me sad because I love Christmas, but I just don’t have it in me this year, Caly. My friend, Lisa, said not to sweat it, but to find a beautiful box of cards and send those out instead. 😂😂😂 I think I might.

  4. What a cool card! I have only ever seen this sort of card once before but I never saw a how-to for it — either video or in written format. Luckily, from you I see both – the video is such a gift! Thanks for the info on the color scheme you used and for showing how to string the beads just by creating notches in a piece of cardstock. Love the end result!!
    Love MFTS too!
