Hey friends!

I’m using a technique today that I learned from the amazing Jennifer McGuire! In her video, she uses acetate to make little flaps for dimension for her butterflies. I did the same for my butterflies to create dimension.

The Butterfly Dreams set comes with butterflies in several sizes, designs, and profiles. I selected 4 of the butterflies to create my slimline card. I embossed the butterfly images on vellum using gold embossing powder. For the butterfly background, I die-cut them using Concord & 9th colored cardstock and embossed them with the Spring Blooms Background stamp using clear embossing powder to give them some interest. I also ink-blended the edges for some interest and you can only see those details if you look under their vellum layers.

Concord & 9th colors used: Grapefruit, Buttercup, Sprout, Aqua Sky

I attached my vellum butterfly layers over the colored layers with adhesive only under the butterfly bodies. This is no different from how I would usually attach butterflies to my cards, but I thought Jennifer’s use of acetate hinges to create instant dimension was fun and wanted to try it! On each side of the wings is a piece of acetate folded in half (like a “v” or carrot)- one side adhered to the butterfly base and the other freely stands to hold the vellum butterfly wings up.

For my background, I die-cut the Detail Bohemian Slim Plate over a slimline panel for a decorative pattern before adhering my assembled butterflies. Then, I finished with a simple embossed sentiment strip. I hope you like it! I love how it turned out – thank you, Jennifer for your inspiration!
