As promised, it’s a month of interactive cards for Hello Bluebird. My last card for the month is a shadowbox. Thanks, Jennifer McGuire, for making this card style new again to the cardmaking world. 🙂 I used an older holiday set called Quiet Christmas and it creates a wonderful scene for my shadowbox.
For the shadow box tutorial, you can visit Jennifer McGuires blog and/or YouTube, but I’m writing out simple directions below.
For a side-folding shadowbox, you can use the following dimensions/directions:
You need two 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ panels.
- The first panel should be scored down the center for your card base. Cut off 1/2″ on one end – this will be the back of your card.
- The second panel should be scored at 1/2″, 4 1/4″, and 4 3/4″ and makes your shadowbox. Cut a sliver off the 1/2″ end – this will help your box fold nicely once adhered to the card base in step 1. The middle section between the two score marks is where you want to put your window – using any dies you’d like.
I started first by stamping and coloring my images using Copic markers and then die-cut all the images using the coordinating Quiet Christmas Dies.
Copic colors used: E42, E43 (squirrel); E30, E53, E23 (deer); G03, G17, R29 (hollies and berries); W0, W2 (bear); YY24, YR27 (fox); B0000, B00 (bird); R27, R29 (scarf, garland/ornaments); V01, V04 (purple); E55, G21, G82 (tree); G00, BG34 (teal scarf)
I ink-blended the background using Spun Sugar and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide inks and arranged my images all over – on the background and under the opening of the shadowbox to give the card some dimension. I especially love the embossed black sentiment strip and and the foliage around it!
The outside of the card is decorated simple with a wreath arrangement using left over images that I had with a simple sentiment to go with the sentiment inside the card. I really hope you enjoyed this card! Thanks for stopping by today!
XOXO,
