Simon Says Stamp – Spring Blooms

Hi, Friends!

I tried a new-to-me technique and I’m excited to share it with you! I was looking at Debby Hugh’s YouTube videos for inspiration and came across her tutorial on faux watercolor. She credits Shari Carroll for this technique – they are both amazing! You can see Debby’s video HERE. I pulled out the same Spring Blooms Background stamp to use for my cards today.

To make these cards, I put my stamp in my MISTI and placed a watercolor panel in the stamp well. I used mini Distress Ink cubes and picked a few colors to pounce onto the solid stamp. After fully covering the stamp, I sprayed it liberally with water using my Ranger Distress Sprayer to reactivate the ink.

Closing the the lid/stamp over the watercolor paper, produces this faux watercolor look! I keep the stamp over the water for about 10 seconds before lifting. You can see that I sprayed more water on my blue panel since the details are lost on some of the flowers.

My first set of cards uses Peacock Fathers, Abandoned Coral, Mowed Lawn, and Lucky Clover inks. My second card uses a few more colors: Abandoned Coral, Speckled Egg, Dried Marigold, Mowed Lawn, and Bundled Sage.

My sentiments are all die-cut from CZ sentiment dies: Friends, Just Because, Hugs, and Thank You. The sub-sentiments are from various pre-printed sentiment strip sets: Reverse Missing You, Reverse Sassy Mama, and Thinking of You. I ink-blended with Abandoned Coral and Peacock Feathers ink to create an ombre look for my white die-cut sentiments.

To decorate the panels, I added a Chunky Slimline Scalloped Rectangle frame underneath the faux watercolor panels – this is also something Debby uses on her cards. Sometimes, a girl is just out of ideas. Thanks Debby, for being my muse today!

I hope you enjoyed these cards! Let me know what colors you like best. I find I tend to go for cool colors a lot, but I’m learning that yellows are such a happy color!
