Hello, Friends!
Today, I’m sharing a simple watercolor technique that I learned from the Concord & 9th Summer Camp event. The watercolor class was taught by Kristina Werner. In no way can I watercolor loosely the way the way it was taught, but I try my best and and feeling better about letting go of the controlled aspect of watercoloring that I’m used to.

I began by stamping and embossing the Spring Flowers Background with black ink and clear embossing powder over watercolor paper. Next, I added water to the entire panel – this is the part I never do. Then, using the colors I know I will use for my flowers, leaves, and berries, I dabbed color on and letting them naturally bloom – filling the entire panel with soft color. Doing this step helps me add color to the background without going back and filling in after the fact. You can add as much color as you like – as you can see, my background is so soft, you can barely tell there’s color there.

Next, I added paint to the nooks and crannies of each flower, but with more water than I usually do – looser than I’m used to. I’m giggling as I type this… because I’m a real control freak with paint and paper. Needless to say, it took a lot for me to move on without trying to “clean up” each flower, leaf and berry. I couldn’t trim down my panel a whole lot after coloring, so today’s card is 4.25″ x 6.25″. I know it’s an odd size, but I can make a custom envelope for it.
Daniel Smith: Quinacridone Rose, Quinacridone Purple, Hooker Green

When I was done painting, I watered down the Quinacridone Purple paint and splattered my panel. I also splattered it with some white paint as well. My sentiments are die-cut from the Big Scripty Hugs die using vellum and black cardstock. Lastly, my sub-sentiment is a strip trimmed from the Reverse Miss You Sentiment Strips. I hope you like it!
