The Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine released a month ago and I shared two cards in the issue. You can see the digital magazine HERE. I’m on page 31!

I created my cards using a PageMaps Sketch:

My cards today are a pair of coordinating cards using this one sketch. One reflects the sketch more closely while the other is flipped in orientation and changes things up a bit. The fun thing about sketches is, it’s totally up for interpretation. I used to get really stressed out about sketches because I always got too literal with them.

Let’s talk about the more “literal” interpretation of the sketch. I used the Honey Bee Stamps Lovely Layers Pinecone set.

I die-cut the lovely layers of the pinecone in brown cardstock and ink-blended it with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink to give it dimension. I also die-cut the pine springs using green cardstock and ink-blended it with Pine Needles Distress Oxide Ink. The bow is die-cut from gold glitter cardstock.

To give both die-cut elements some interest, I used some Glossy Accents (clear lacquer/adhesive) and sprinkled on some Tim Holtz Distress Frosted Crystal embossing powder. To give it lots of texture, I heat embossed it. The heat dries the clear adhesive and causes it to bubble up and also activates the embossing powder. It’s a great technique I use every winter for a snow-like look.

For the banner across the bottom, I decided to get colorful with cardstock strips. I die-cut the strips of Simon Says Stamp cardstock using the Strips 1 Die. I filled a panel and cut a 1″ wide strip for the bottom of my card. My sentiment is a pre-printed sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Reverse Merriest Christmas Sentiment Strips set.

My second card is similar, with the paper stripes panel going vertically instead of horizontally and features the Winter Bouquets set from Honey Bee Stamps.

I die-cut the poinsettia and holly leaves from pink and green cardstock and ink-blended them with Abandoned Coral and Pine Needle Distress Oxide inks. When ready to attach, i first fluffed them up by pinching the ends of the petals together to create dimension.

My sentiment from this card is from the Reverse Christmas Sentiment Strips. It’s so convenient when the sentiments are pre-printed! I hope you love these cards! I have one more thing to share with you! SCT Magazine asked me to create some envelope art using the Karin Pigment Decobrush markers so I used them to create a holiday envelope.

Serious business. I had never used these markers before and hand-drew the banner and stems myself on a black envelope. I first used a pencil to draft, then “painted” or colored it in with the Karin markers. I had a great time doing it all by hand, but it required patience and I kept worrying I would mess something up!

Here are the colors used on my envelope art – I got the Master set (includes all the sets sold separately) so I had a lot to choose from, but I think a great set to start with is the basic set – you get the full rainbow including black and white. These pens are so juicy and I loved painting/drawing AND hand-lettering with them.
