Hero Arts – Christmas Rose

Hello, Friends!

Happy Christmas Eve! I’m sharing a project using the Christmas Rose set from Hero Arts today. Last year, ironically at this very time, I used another Hero Arts set called Christmas Rose as well, except it was made using a background cling stamp. The card reminded me of Rifle Paper Co.’s patterns. You can view that post HERE. Here’s a picture of that card, just for fun:

The new Christmas Rose set is a beautiful single bouquet that I decided to watercolor for today’s card. I stamped it with a light ink to do no-line watercoloring using Daniel Smith watercolors.

Paint colors used:
Flowers: Pyrrol Crimson, Quinacridone Coral
Berries: Quinacridone Purple
Flower centers: Quinacridone Gold
Foliage: Sap Green, Hooker’s Green

After painting, I die-cut the image and added some black details to the stamen by drawing them back in using a black drawing pen. I could’ve also painted it back on, but I get better control with a pen. For my background, I ink-blended a white panel with Festive Berries and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Inks. I started at the top right hand corner and faded to white .

I attached my image using foam adhesive to give it lots of dimension, then splattered it with gold and white paint to give it more interest. For my sentiment, I embossed in white over black cardstock and fussy-cut around the scripted words to frame it better.

I finished by adding the card panel to a cardbase and attached some iridescent sequins. I hope you like it! I’m really loving these bouquets from Hero Arts! This bouquet can be colored in any way to give it a non-Christmassy look too!

Have a wonderful evening with your family/friends. Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Hola, Caly! Girl, these are gorgeous! Ooo, I just love when you watercolor! I love both of them. I actually have the Christmas Rose background cling that you mentioned….. somewhere. haha haha Now I have some inspiration and some ideas to use it. πŸ˜€ My mother made tamales today and I could feel my butt getting bigger with every delicious whiff of them cooking. I bought my own Christmas present, Caly. I ran an errand to Walgreens and BE STILL MY HEART! They had Micky and Minnie Mouse. Thirty-six glorious inches each. A great gift for a 52 year old “little girl,” I think. 😁😁😁

      1. My mother isn’t very patient or tolerant of someone cooking with her so it’s best to stay out of the way. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Especially with something complicated like tamales. And then she doesn’t have anything written down. She cooks by taste and feel so she’ll snatch it out of your hand and send you packing. I work better at the “quality assurance” aspect of things, Caly. You know, the official taste tester. haha haha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ She’s happier with me playing that part, too. She did like the pancakes that I made for her. πŸ˜€ By the way, why are you working today on Christmas? πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

      2. I work every day! Actually, blog posts and cards are made and scheduled weeks in advance. I did make a card today though!

And in the kitchen…I have to say that I’m a lot like your mom.
